Before the gas shortange of the 80's, American Automotive Manufacturers had one theory, bigger is better. Muscle cars of the late 60's and early 70's were big, bad, and powerful. These cars were stuffed with great big V8's and were far from gas friendly, which led to their downfall later in the 70's. Every different manufacturer had their own muscle car, from Chevy Camaros and Corvettes to Ford Mustangs.

Chevy had the good looking Super Sport (SS) and Rally Sport (RS) Camaros under their belt as well as the still popular Z-28 Camaros. These were quite the muscle cars and could be tuned to produce some big horsepower.
Who could forget the ever popular and equally powerful Corvette.

Ford had it's own line of pony cars, the Mustangs and they had some get up and go. Mustang Mach 1's could move when you needed them too.
BOSS Mustangs were kings of the road.
For those who still weren't satisfied, Shelby put the biggest, badest engines Ford made under the hoods of his Shelby GT 350 and 500 model beasts.
